Reports and Notifications
FAQ List
How will this service benefit me?
By registering for this service you will ensure that you receive key Council notifications as soon as they are published. The notifications you receive will be based on your locality and will be relevant to you. This service will compliment traditional notification methods such as newspaper and radio announcements, but will not replace them.
The PDF Reports provide an easy way to learn everything about your area in a series of easy-to-understand reports. The reports are categorised into broad categories such as Census, Environment and Water Quality. These PDF Reports are based on your local area, and eliminate the need to learn digital mapping applications on the Internet. The PDF Reports can be used in a variety of ways. For example, they provide information that can be useful in the preparation of a planning application.
How much does it cost to register for this service?
This service is completely free. It costs nothing to register and there are no hidden costs. All reports and notifications are provided free of charge. There is also no cost associated with receiving a text message. The Council provides the text service free of charge.
I cannot get Broadband at my home. Can I use this service?
A broadband connection is required during the registration process when you are required to locate your home on a Google Map. Once you locate your home on the registration page it will be stored in our system. After registration any Internet connection will be sufficient to use this application, including dial-up. The PDF Reports are all very small file sizes, while the email notifications are also very small.
How do I find my location on the Google Map on the Registration page?
There is a search box located on the bottom left of the map. Type your street, townland, or town name into this box and press the search button. This will automatically move the map over your general location. Enter as much detail as possible to ensure you accurately find you’re your location. For example, search for “High Street Ballyragget” rather than just “High Street” to ensure the correct town is located. Once you move the map over your general area you can use the road labels to locate your house.
Can I change my contact email address or mobile phone number?
You can change all your contact details when you log into your account and click on the “My Reports” setting. This is useful if you change email address or mobile number.
Can I receive notifications and reports for lots of locations in Kilkenny?
This service is based on a single location per registered User. However you can register as many times as you like, providing you use a different email address for each account. Therefore you can register for reports and notifications for your work place as well as your home, for example.
Will my personal details be used by the Council for other purposes?
This application will only use member details for reports and notifications. The member database will not be cross-referenced or used in conjunction with any other County Council application or service.
How do I stop receiving SMS-Email notifications?
You can log into your account and switch off the various SMS Notifications for which you registered. For example, if you choose to no longer receive Water Outage notifications then we will never contact you if your local water supply is disrupted.
Will the SMS Notification system replace Newspaper and Local Radio announcements?
This system will compliment existing notification methods such as local radio and local newspapers. This service provides a new way to communicate our notifications to people but will never replace these traditional methods.
How accurate is the data used in the PDF Reports?
The data we use in the report is provided as an indicator for your location. Some 3rd Party data is provided as an overview dataset and may not be reliable down to house level. All data owners (with contact web links) are outlined in the various sections of the PDF Reports. If you have a query with any data used please contact the relevant data owner. Kilkenny County Council is only responsible for data where data ownership is acknowledged in the PDF Report.
Can I register for reports and notifications in other counties?
This service was developed by Kilkenny County Council and only refers to mapped information from County Kilkenny. At present there is no regional or national system that provides this service. In the Registration page you are not permitted to submit a location that falls outside County Kilkenny.
Can I change my House Location on the map?
We are currently working on Version 2 of the application, where you will be able to modify your registered location from your login area. It is intended that this function will be available in Spring 2009.
Can I request updates to my PDF Reports?
Version 2 of the application (Spring 2009) will allow you to request updates of your PDF Reports (received after a successful registration). Most PDF Reports will not change over a short period of time (eg, Census, Local Services), but we will allow Users to request updates on all reports nonetheless.
How does Kilkenny County Council predict floods?
The Council uses historical OPW mapped flood data, which outlines the historical locations of flooding in County Kilkenny. We provide advance flood warnings to Registered Users living in areas that have experienced flooding in the past. The current policy is to send an advance flood warning when the Council receives a Severe Weather Warning from Met Eireann relating to heavy rainfall in the South East. Please note that our advance flood warnings are based on predictions and flooding may not occur in your area each time you receive an advance flood warning SMS message and email. For more information on OPW flood data, visit www.floodmaps.ie.
Can I make suggestions on what additional information should be included in the PDF Reports?
We welcome any feedback on this application. If you would like any additional information included, or would like the format of the reports changed, please email your suggestions to gisqueries@kilkennycoco.ie.
